Men's Club Board Meeting 10/21/2026
Members Present: Russ Veenema, Ray Ballantyne, Bill Schless, Craig Wilson, Robin Slater, Ron Grant, Rob Bourns, Don Flores
- 2:28 PM Russ Veenema called the meeting to order.
- Garrett Smithson- Course/Management Updates
• Cart Paths are progressing. Will finish as weather permits.
• Hitting bays in the new range building will hopefully begin lessons in November. Have bids from Fore Sight and TrackMan for the full simulator experience. Will go to PGA Merchandise Show in January to see other vendors. Pending tribal approval, hope to have simulators in by March.
• Bunkers are a big financial commitment. Bids have gone to the tribe for approval. Hope to be done with the bunkers by Mid May before the WA Open. The Senior Open will be in early June. The bunker at 17 has a concrete base with drainage under the sand. Course might continue to have Mike and his crew work on main bunkers.
• Don Flores asked Garrett if he would be interested in a Men’s Club vs. Women’s Club competition.
- Craig Wilson- Board approved September minutes as presented.
- Bill Schless- CAD Treasurer Report Oct. 20, 2026
• Balance of $5089.42 as of 18 Aug 2026. Three deposits totally $188.25 from Member Planet; Expenses of $2165.87 [Pro Shop-Cedars Cup, $500; WA Golf $119.25; Peninsula Awards, $59.75; Pro Shop-Memorial, $350; Pro ShopLunches-Memorial, $832.00; Pro Shop-Hole-in-One Flags, 304.83.]
• Balance on 20 October 2026 of $3111.81
• Total membership is 204...plus or minus one!
• Golf annual membership begins January 1. $65.00
• An issue that has been discussed in the past is if a player has an active GHIN but would like to join our club, is there an option for that person to not have to pay for a 2nd GHIN. Ray Ballantyne made a motion that we create a $35 “Social Membership” for anyone with any active GHIN membership at another club to be able to play in our events. Bill seconded. Pros and cons were discussed and the motion was unanimously approved.
- Russ Veenema- A new member welcome email is sent to all as they sign up for the new year of Men’s Club Membership. Membership sign up opens up on November 15. All information can be found on our web site.
- Don Flores- Web site is the way to find out about the club events. There are 500-600 hits per month. He is creating a way to find partners for competitions. One issue is getting consistent information about events so that the web site is always correct.
- Ron Grant- GHIN update
• Jan. 1 is the end of the membership year. Members should not change that date when renewing.
• GHIN has a Handicap Review Tool he is expected to use at least once a year. It can recommend adjustments he should consider. He has given feedback to them. He will run the report during summer when players are posting scores.
- Rob Bourns- Four Course Clash was discussed with Garrett noting that some of the other courses might not participate for 2027. Rob mentioned it was hard to get players toward the end. Rob will work with Garrett to look at other course play options during the year and of course monitor the Four Course Clash
- Robin Slater- Competitions-
• Has created a training manual for scoring the Wednesday events so that he can recruit more people to help with the scoring duties. More detailed instructions will make the job easier. Multiple formats with lots of flights makes entering scores harder.
• Will post November schedule on web site.
- Ray Ballantyne-
• Hole In One flags were well received
• Age Shooters must fill out a form from the ProShop. We do not track them. Will also get this form on the web site.
- Rules Discussion- Options and Pros/Cons were discussed for Winter Rules, Root Rule, Leaf Rule, OB options, etc. The Men’s Club need to make decisions and create a consistent approach to all these situations to be published for all members to clarity. Discussion was tabled until John gets back in November.
- Miscellaneous Items-
• Russ- Bylaws are being modified and will be discussed in November.
• Craig- Divot repair volunteers. Bill Berry mentioned this at September meeting. Will pursue
• Russ- Men’s Club donation to CAD to highlight the Men’s Club. Sand boxes on Par 3 Tees, Cleat scrapers at ball washers, Sand Bottle Box at 10, etc. Will discuss further at November meeting
• Don & Russ- Bulletin Board Update. More photos, flyers for Majors, QR code for Board Minutes, Local Rules, Calendar
• Future Board Meetings: November, January, March, May, June, July, August, September
• Major Tournaments will be put on course calendar and posted on web site.
• Fund Raising Events- Discussion regarding fundraising events for the community. Robin will work on options and present to board
• Types of Wednesday Events- Simple is better, publish a flyer each week on the counter in the Pro Shop. Multiple flights is complex. Try to get more people winning rather than larger payouts for a few. Pay deeper with only 2 flights. Might combine KP and Game cost into one charge.
