Subject: Minutes of Board Meeting July 8, 2026
From: Jim Jaqubino – Secretary/Historian
To: Cedars At Dungeness Men’s Club
Meeting was called to order 2:25 pm by President Russ Veenema
Minutes from May 6 and June 24 were reviewed and approved by motion and
vote by the board.
Present were President Russ Veenema, Vice President Ray Ballentyne,
Secretary Jim Jaqubino, Treasurer Bill Schless, Handicap Chair Ron Grant,
Team Captain Rob Bourns, Rules Chairman Harry Phillips, and WA Golf
Representative Don Flores. Tournament Chair is presently vacant
There were no guests present.
Paving on hole 11 is expected to be completed by July 11 or 12, per Garrett
Smithson, Head Professional and Director of Group Sales.
Club member responses to the memo sent to the membership were strong.
Basically, the membership said that the greens are better but could be improved
on. Bunkers need a lot of work. Ground under repair markings are better.
Good mixture of competitions. Would prefer more 2 man or more competitions.
Some members believe that not all scores are being posted. Some members are
having difficulty engaging with fellow members to play regularly. Members also
appreciate the Web Site and the rules information provided. Thank you for all
the feedback.
Treasurer Bill Schless stated that there is a previous balance of $6742.97 with
expenses of $1265.29 for a present balance of $5853.68 as of July 8, 2026.
Handicap Chairman Ron Grant appealed to the membership to post their scores.
Team Captain Rob Bourns would appreciate it for members to get involved in the
competitions like the Four Course Clash in order to field a full team for each
event. He is looking into future outings to other courses when Cedars is not
available on Men’s Club Wednesdays.
Rules Chairman Harry Phillips reiterated that all golfers should familiarize
themselves with the rules. The USGA Rules of Golf are available online and it
has been proposed to have Rules books available for purchase in the Pro Shop
at a reasonable price. Management will be contacted to fulfill this request. It
was voted on and approved by a majority of the Board Members to ask Garrett
Smithson to write up the local rules and present them to the members.
Men’s Club interest in becoming schooled in the use of Golf Genius is strong.
Several members have expressed a desire to learn and help with the weekly
scoring.
It has been suggested that for the rest of the fiscal year that weekly
competitions would primarily be 1st Wednesday, Individual stroke play and
eclectic. 2nd Wednesday would be a two-man team event,
(scramble/shamble/BB/Stableford, BB/alternate shot, long and short) 3rd
Wednesday individual stroke play, (strike 3/ best nine/Stableford//reverse 9
(front/back), 4th Wednesday, Pick any T. These competitions would be chaired
by volunteer event committee members on a weekly basis. The Tournament
Chairman position will be filled next year at the Annual Meeting. He will work
with members and the Board of Directors to coordinate the weekly competitions
rather than take all the responsibility for running the weekly events.
For the September 30th Memorial Tournament, we will be providing box lunches
for participants.
WA Golf Rep Don Flores talked about the web site and said that there is a lot of
information available to the members.
As several Board Members have fulfilled their obligations at the end of this fiscal
year there could be opportunities to become a member of the Board of
Directors. Further information as to which positions will be available will be
posted before the Annual General Meeting.
The next meeting will be held on August 19th
.
The meeting was adjourned at 4 pm.
