Annual Men's Club Meeting

Prior to the meeting Garrett Smithson, Head Pro and Director of Group Sales addressed the audience with praise for the best men’s club around and a special thanks to Richard Clendening for all he does for the course and club. Also, Chad Wagner, General Manager and Director of Golf discussed the ongoing improvements to the course with emphasis on tree removal, future renovations of hole # 8, and improving the bunkers, tee boxes and cart paths on the course.  Due to the expense of bunker sand, etc. the course will see renewal of bunkers a few holes at a time in the upcoming years.

Meeting was called to order by Vice President Russ Veenema at 2:40 pm.

Present were, Vice President Russ Veenema, Secretary/Historian Jim Jaqubino, Competition Chairman Richard Clendening, Rules Chairman Harry Phillips, Team Captain Robert Bourns, Handicap Chairman Ron Grant, and WA golf representative Don Flores.

As a Memorial Tournament we would like to acknowledge the passing of 4 of our members this past year.  They were Steve Lewis, Bill Rucker, Sean Butcher and George Switzer.  RIP gentlemen, you will be missed.   A toast was raised in their memories.

A special thanks to Jerry Allen as our CEO for the continued dedication to making Cedars At Dungeness the finest facility around.

Russ Veenema stated that we have $3313 in the bank and that there are 203 members this year as compared to 193 last year.  Russ also reviewed all the holes in one that were made this year along with the members that recorded a score the same or better than their age.

Richard Clendening wanted to thank the members that participated in today’s tournament and also the pro shop for taking the reins on a weekly basis starting in November.  We all agree that with the fantastic job he does on a weekly basis that a well-deserved break is forthcoming.

Team Captain Robert Bourns added that the 4-course clash is the predominant team event and that we could possibly include play at other fine courses within a reasonable distance for perhaps a weekend gathering or in place of our regular weekly event in the case our course is unavailable on occasion.

WA Golf representative Don Flores noted that the dues to WA Golf would be going up $3 to $42 to GHIN.  We discussed possibly raising our Men’s Club membership fee $5 a year to offset the increase.  It will be discussed in our next meeting.  Thanks, Don, for doing such a fine job with the Men’s Club web site.

Rules Chairman Harry Phillips emphasized the rules of golf are available online as well as in print format and encouraged the membership to become familiar with them.

The Board and membership would like to thank Bill Berry and Steve Collatz for their many years dedicated to the Board and membership.  You guys were fantastic.

Vice President Russ Veenema put forth 3 names of members to fill openings on the board for the next period of service.  Voted on by the membership in attendance it was determined that Russ Veenema would be the next President, Ray Ballantyne as Vice President and Bill Schless as the Treasurer.  Thanks, gentlemen, for your service to the board and membership.

This concluded the agenda for the meeting and motion to adjourn at 3:25 pm.
